Are You a Corporate or Entrepreneurial Person?

Many people struggle with their inability to fit into the corporate mold. They cannot figure out why they can’t land another corporate position after being laid off, and young adults wonder why they cannot get their first corporate job.

The reason is simple. They are not built for the corporate system. It doesn’t fit who they are as a person. They are not conformists. They are not followers. And this vibe comes across to the person who is interviewing them.

If they had once held a corporate job, they may have been relatively successful, but they were probably not content. They were likely very frustrated and stressed by trying to force themselves into being corporate soldiers.

What kept them there? The money, perks, prestige, and security. The fear of the unknown is probably the strongest reason people stay in a job they hate.

Small businesses are an alternative to corporations. These can range from family-owned enterprises to midsize companies. Small businesses have far less bureaucracy and formal structure. A corporation can feel like a nonhuman machine, whereas a small business can feel like a family or sports team. But you may not fit into a small company environment if you’re a strong, independent thinker. You may be best suited as an entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurs are rebels, innovators, and risk-takers. They are freedom-loving people who want to be in charge. They want to control how they will spend their days. They want to do work they love. They want to be creative. They want to design and build a business of their own. Entrepreneurs also usually have a strong distaste and impatience for certain things inherent in the corporate structure and some bloated companies.

Entrepreneurs hate doing things they deem illogical, inefficient, or unethical. They hate to market a product or service they don’t love or believe in completely! They hate prioritizing and focusing their energies on generating profits over creating value.

The lifeblood of public corporations is the profits produced by their workers. When profits descend or disappear, so do workers.

So what’s the best fit for you? Corporate, small company, or entrepreneurial career? If you picked an entrepreneur, this is the best time to start a business, regardless of how old or young you are. Why is this the best time ever? Because the start-up costs are so ridiculously low in comparison, and you have instant access to a world market. The Internet makes this possible.

There are many possibilities for creating an online business. Here are some ideas.

  • Knowledge – Do you have a strong interest in something you’ve accumulated much knowledge about over the years?
  • Skill – Do you have a skill you’ve mastered that you’d like to teach others?
  • Passion – Do you have a passion for something you’d like to learn and share with others?
  • Product – Do you have a product or an idea for one that fulfills a need or does so better than the competition?
  • Service – Do you have a service or an idea for a service that satisfies a need or does so better than anyone else?

Each of these areas could be developed into an income-generating website.  The keys to success are being passionate about your niche, having an adequate number of interested customers/visitors, and entering an unsaturated market that you have a good chance of dominating in the search results.

If you have no e-business experience or technical knowledge, or have tried and failed, I highly recommend looking at the information outlined here: How to Make Money Online.
