Memory Foam Mattress Review

I read countless memory foam mattress reviews before I decided to buy. The majority were positive. There were a few negative reviews. Like me, you have probably come to easily spot the naysayers and learned to ignore them.

Here are the reasons I decided to buy a memory foam mattress instead of a traditional one.

  • Low Cost – They are a better value – at least where I purchased it. I share where later. 😀
  • Support – They provide more refined body support for preventing morning kinks and soreness.
  • Appearance – They return to their original shape after you get off them. No dry lake bed center.
  • Frame – They do not require box springs or a foundation.
  • Longevity – They last longer, according to reviews and the manufacturer.
  • Unconventional – They satisfy my appetite for nonconformity and innovation.

I had been waking up with lower back pain for years. It was a serious problem that affected my mood in the morning and my ability to perform. There is no medical reason for this to happen. I’ve never injured my back. Fortunately, the discomfort would usually disappear after I was up and about. Sometimes, however, it would stay with me all day.

Since I got my memory foam mattress, I have not had any back pain or discomfort whatsoever. Really! It’s amazing. As you can imagine, I am extremely pleased with this result. Here’s my understanding of how the memory foam mattress works and my experience sleeping on it.

When you lay on the bed, the memory foam mattress “shapes itself to your body,” giving you complete support and a weightless feeling. With a traditional mattress, I always felt that my lower back was not being supported correctly and that there was an unnatural pressure on my hip when lying on my side. This was particularly an issue on my left side because I had a little surgery done on my left hip years ago. I feel completely supported by the memory foam mattress; it feels natural, and I do not feel any discomfort. Overall, I get a luxurious feeling when I lay on it.

Another advantage of the memory foam mattress is its unique packaging, which allows it to be shipped to your home for free! At least from where I bought it. I’ll get to where soon. 😀 The manufacturer removes all the air from the memory foam mattress, which allows it to be rolled up and placed into a very manageable box. I was surprised at how small it was. Once you open it and break the plastic bag seal, it expands to its correct size in a few hours. It is super cool.

One of the biggest challenges to buying a new “traditional” mattress is figuring out how to get it home. You can pay for home delivery, but I’d rather spend that money on new pillows and sheets. I should mention here that I also got a memory foam pillow, which I highly recommend for completing your memory foam bed ensemble.

There is another advantage to owning a memory foam mattress, which I expected and recently experienced. When you move, it is much easier to handle than a traditional mattress and box springs or foundation.

Okay, are you ready to hear what I got and where? Drum roll in your mind, please. I bought a Spa Sensations 8” Memory Foam Mattress and a Spa Sensations Smart Steel Bed Frame from Walmart, and both were shipped to my home for free! They arrived in just a few days, and I set them up in just a few minutes.

Although the 8” is very comfortable, I recommend you go for a 10” or larger if you can afford it. Avoid anything smaller than 8”; I don’t think that would work well. The Spa Sensations Smart Steel Bed Frame is sturdy and easy to fold up and move, but it’s not very stylish. I’d go for a South Shore Platform Bed, also sold at Walmart, if you can afford it.

Update: After using the 8″ memory foam mattress for a few years, I upgraded to a 10″ gel-infused memory foam mattress. The gel provides better airflow and cooling. I also selected the Better Homes & Gardens brand instead, as I liked its appearance better. I am very pleased with it.

Tip: Allow more than 72 hours, as stated in the instructions, for the memory foam mattress to expand to its full size. Mine took about 5 days.

I love my memory foam mattress. I like it more than any mattress I’ve ever owned. I think you’ll love it if you decide to get one.
